Google plans to destroy us all with 20 foot killer robots!

The one of the nicer problems in modern life these days is that there’s too much choice. Name a product and there are at least three alternatives vying for your attention with their respective thumbs stuck in different parts of the growth-share matrix. Hell, name anything and that’ll happen. Unless you’re naming American Banks*.

4mations

UK TV viewers of a certain age may remember Channel 4’s FourMations animated tv seasons. Usually consigned to late night slots or acting as televisual polyfilla when there were five minute gaps between episodes of Countdown and Fifteen-to-One – it usually consisted of a wide plethora of the latest animated shorts from across the globe.

Trendy settings

CSS Legend Dan Cederholm has started a trend of forcing a re-design of a site by stripping away his CSS and then re-building his site as-live, for all of us to witness. This is a cracking idea, and has spawned a couple of followers who have taken his lead and done the same.

Tasty morsels of info with a chewy caramel centre…

“Algebra was invented long before they had any use for it in physics and computer programming.”

This particular pearl of wisdom was bestowed upon me by my Maths teacher many years ago. It was something that I was perfectly prepared to believe, after all, despite being Welsh, he was a teacher and I had no reason to disbelieve this particular fact. It was not one I chose to re-use. I ♥ Google (even more than usual).

There are thousands of ways to harvest and read the various syndicated feeds you get from all your favourite websites to your screen. Integration of feeds onto websites, specialist client software, Flash applications and all manner of widgets to crowd up your desktop are just some of the ways that people read the content.

But that’s the thing; although I am certain that there are many different ways that people have been reading the feeds, and I’m certain that they’re all very happy with their respective methods, nothing’s seemed to quite fit into my lifestyle.

Beta testing

Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed that (at time of writing) that there is the somewhat telling word ‘beta’ secreted into the website masthead. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that this is because, well frankly, the site isn’t finished yet.

There’s LOADS still to do – most of the rooms still need furnishing, there are still parts of the house where wiring and plumbing are exposed, and although the bulk of the work is done, certainly behind the scenes, I still have to make my mark on the place and get nicely settled in. I’ll have a housewarming party when everything’s finally ready, but it’ll be one of those events where everyone had already visited at least once before that night; stepping over packing crates and ensuring they don’t lean on any fresh-painted walls.
